Woven Threads Shortlisted for AFI | AACTA Award, to Screen at Shorts + Web Fest

Woven Threads has been shortlisted for 2019’s AFI | AACTA Awards and will screen at the AACTA Shorts + Web Fest this August.

The compelling animated series, which tells the varied and moving stories of refugees, has been nominated for “Best Short Documentary” - a new award created by the Australian Film Institute (AFI) and the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) this year.

The series, created and directed by Michi Marosszeky and produced by Paul Sullivan of Benchmark Media and Entertainment, will join other Documentary finalists including Pia Borg’s Demonic; Luke Taylor’s Home Front – Facing Australia’s Climate Emergency; Chris Phillips’ Lost Rambos; Gary Hamaguchi’s Saving Seagrass and Stefan Bugryn’s War Mothers: Unbreakable.

A selection of AFI | AACTA nominated films will screen at the AACTA Shorts + Web Fest, a two-day free event taking place from August 30-31 in Sydney at the Factory Theatre. Woven Threads will screen alongside films from the “Best Short Film”, “Best Short Animation” and “Best Short Documentary” award categories.

THE FEED’s Jan Fran is hosting the festival and says the event is a chance to celebrate some of the most exciting content creators in Australia.

“Short films and web series are the perfect platforms for new, diverse and exciting voices, and I can’t wait to showcase what some of Australia’s emerging creators have come up with at the Fest,” she says.

Shorts + Web Fest is a free event, although RSVPs are essential.

All nominated short films will also screen in Brisbane on September 2-3 and in Melbourne on September 3-4.

Woven Threads is a Benchmark Media and Entertainment program, financed with support from the ACTF, the ABC, Create NSW. The ACTF distributes Woven Threads internationally.
